Children's safety on the farm
SAFETY OF YOUNG CHILDREN ON THE FARM

Parents and carers of young children, particularly those under five years, must be especially vigilant during your stay on Mogendoura Farm. Without trying to alarm you there are many sources of potential danger for young children on farms.

Typically farms have livestock, machinery and a range of natural hazards, particularly water. The Royal Life Saving Society Australia recommends creating special enclosures inside or close to the house ‘to fence in the child’ but with the size and nature of our holiday accommodation this is not practical and it is not feasible to fence off all the outside dangers.

Constant parental supervision is essential with all young children, please.

You should note the following within proximity of the farm accommodation:

Farmhouse:

1. River banks – within 200m

2. Water feature – located in the courtyard. (A temporary fence is available for erecting around the water feature during your stay – please ask us in advance to set this up).

3. Machinery sheds with tractor and mowers – three sheds and loft within 100m

4. Water Dams – four dams including a duck pond – scattered throughout the property

5. Livestock water troughs – located along the fence-line of many paddocks

6. Barbed wire fences – barbed wire lines many of the paddocks

7. Temporary Puddles – following heavy rain puddles appear in low lying areas, on roads

Cottages:
  • Riverbanks – within 100m

  • Machinery sheds with tractor and mowers – three sheds and loft within 100m

  • Water Dams – four dams including a duck pond – scattered throughout the property

  • Livestock water troughs – located along the fence-line of many paddocks

  • Barbed wire fences – barbed wire lines many of the paddocks

  • Temporary Puddles – following heavy rain puddles appear in low lying areas, on roads

  • Dense bushland – fairly dense bush is located about 50m behind the cottages which lead down to the river (100m)

Being the bush there are also residents including snakes and spiders. Please keep an eye out for these and avoid them if possible. They will be more afraid of you so please just let them pass.

First Aid kits are available in each cottage and farmhouse – these are located in the kitchen drawers.

Knowledge of First Aid is useful for everyone and we know that high-quality courses are available through Royal Life Saving. Safety Fact Sheets on a range of subjects are available for download from www.royallifesaving.com.au

Phone numbers for Medical and Emergency Services including local doctors and ambulance are listed in the Guest Handbook.

Safety is so important and we encourage you to be aware of and keep your child safe from any potential danger.

Please ensure you watch over your children at all times.
